Parking in Ayr
Voucher Parking Scheme
The careful control of on-street parking in the town centre is considered to be
a prerequisite for effective traffic management and the promotion of alternatives
to the car. Since the introduction of on-street parking charges in Ayr in 1993 motorists
have paying for parking by pre-paid parking vouchers bought from shops.
South Ayrshire Council is now in to process of moving away from pre-paid parking vouchers
and will be introducing fifty-six Pay and Display machines in the centre of Ayr.
These machines should be operational for Monday 2nd April 2012. The Council and
shops will still sell vouchers up until April. Any vouchers held by motorists after
April will remain valid until 1 June.
There is no need to display a voucher on Saturday afternoons or Sundays as parking
charges do not apply then.
