Parking in Ayr

Residents - Access Permits

Residents of the High Street, Kirk Port, Nile Court, and Old Bridge Street who have private off road parking should obtain a Type A Access Permit. This permit allows access to the High Street 24hrs a day so long as the car is parked in an off-road parking area. The permit does not allow parking in any of the bays in the High Street.

A Type B permit is also available to those residents of High Street, Kirk Port, Nile Court, and Old Bridge Street who do not have access to off road parking. Type B Access permits allows access to the High Street between 6.30pm and 8.30am. The permit does not allow access to the High Street between 8.30am and 6.30pm.

Both Type A and Type B permits are renewable annually and are valid from 4 quarterly dates in the year, namely 1st March, 1st June, 1st September and 1st December. A permit applied for between two of these dates will run from the beginning of the current quarter. Permits running from the start of the next quarter may be applied for up to 14 days in advance.

Before an access permit can be issued, the Council must be satisfied that the applicant is entitled to a permit. You therefore must supply certain documentation to confirm your address and the registration number of your vehicle.

Examples of acceptable documentation are:

  • Confirmation of address: any document from an official source so long as it includes your address or headed note paper from your business (if applicable)
  • Confirmation of registration number: any document from an official source so long as it includes your vehicle registration number, e.g. insurance document or vehicle registration document.
  • Confirmation that you have use of an off-road parking area (if your application is for a Type A Access permit): documentation (e.g. a copy of a title deed) showing that you own an off-road area or a letter from the owner of an off-road area confirming that you are permitted to use that area at all times. NB residents of Riverside Flats do not need to supply this documentation.
