Parking in Ayr

Pay By Phone

A Pay by Phone pilot scheme will begin in Barns Crescent, Charlotte Street and Kyle Street car parks in the town from the start of July 2011, providing a quick and secure way to pay for parking all from the comfort of your car.

The current Pay and Display machines will remain in operation at all three locations for those who want to use them while the new facility will allow drivers to pay for parking using their mobile phones and a credit or debit card.

Pay by phone works by drivers contacting the call centre to register their arrival at the car park, giving details of their car registration, and payment is made by their choice of card, which has to be registered the first time it is used.

No tickets are issued and parking attendants receive a text message with the details of the transaction so they know the vehicle is legally parked.

The cost of parking is the same regardless of the payment method used; however, a service charge of 20p will apply to each pay by phone transaction.

Drivers paying by phone can also opt to receive reminder text messages (which cost 10p per message) so they always know when their parking session is about to end and can extend their parking period if required (subject to maximum stay limits), without needing to return to the car to buy another ticket.
