Disabled Parking in South Ayrshire

Disabled Parking bays in South Ayrshire are currently either enforceable or advisory.

Enforceable bays are primarily located in town centre positions and it is unlawful to park there without displaying a Disabled Persons Blue Badge.

Advisory bays are generally sited in residential locations adjacent or near to the disabled person’s residence. Since they are not enforceable the cooperation of able bodied drivers is necessary to ensure the bay is available for the disabled person.

The Disabled Persons Parking Places Act 2009 places a requirement on all local authorities in Scotland, within 5 years, to make all on road disabled bays enforceable. There is also provision to include off road parking bays such as those in public and privately owned car parks.

At the present time the council does not have any additional funding to allow us to implement all bays at the one time. It our intention therefore to phase the implementation of this Act over the next few years.

We are currently carrying out the first phase of this process and will create enforceable bays in the following area:

  • Ayr (Belmont)
  • Crosshill
  • Dailly
  • Dundonald
  • Dunure
  • Girvan
  • Loans
  • Maidens
  • Maybole
  • Minishant
  • Troon

It is intended that bays in the remainder will be progressed in the next financial year.

On-street Disabled Parking Bays in Ayr Town Centre

There are a number of on-street disabled persons parking spaces on the High Street and the streets around the town centre. Disabled drivers can park in these spaces without charge, however to encourage turnover these bays are restricted to a 2 hour limit as detailed by the on-street sign.

This interactive maps shows the location of these on-street disabled parking bays within Ayr town centre. Details of off-street car parks offering disabled spaces are also available.
