Young divers earn top marks

Young people from across South Ayrshire came together to show off their talents in a diving development competition at the Citadel, Leisure Centre in Ayr. The competition which was organised by the Council in conjunction with Ayr Diving Club was a chance for the young divers to compete in front of a panel of judges and spectators.

The event gave the youngsters a taste of competitive diving with the judges marking the children's basic skills learned as part of the 'Learn 2 Dive' initiative. All the competitors received a certificate for their efforts.

Councillor Bill Grant, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said: "This was a fantastic experience for the kids and their families and friends enjoyed it too. All of the young divers were very good and some received top scores, so who knows where they can go from here. The Council's 'Learn 2….' sports development activities are free and proving popular, the success of the diving competition shows just how quickly our young people are mastering these sports."

There are 'Learn 2….' activities on lots of sports such as athletics, badminton, diving, netball and swimming to find out more, visit www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/leisure/learn2/
