Hats off as work begins on the new all-weather pitches at Marr College
Work to develop two new all-weather sports pitches at Marr College has officially begun and it's hoped the new facilities will be finished and ready for use by summer 2015
The development of the pitches marks an investment of £1m from South Ayrshire Council, with an additional contribution of £300,000 from sportscotland to help develop local sports facilities and opportunities.
Significant consultation, particularly with the school, community and local community sports hub has been a key feature of the new development and the new pitches will also be available for public use, further boosting sports provision in the local area.
Councillor Bill Grant, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said:
"I'm delighted work has now started on the construction of the pitches and I'm confident we can now push forward and really maximise the benefits of the new pitches for the pupils and the public to enjoy for many years to come."
Managing director of Kier Construction's Scotland & north-east England business, Brian McQuade, added: "We are delighted that Kier has been appointed to deliver two new all-weather sports pitches for Marr College. They will benefit both students and local residents by encouraging greater access to sports and community amenities."
