Councillor Peter Convery and Liz Marquis, Director of the Energy Agency post the first letters on the Home Insulation Scheme to Troon residents.
Jack Frost may well be nipping at our fingers and toes, but households in Troon can look forward to being warmer and more energy efficient this winter, thanks to a campaign run in partnership between South Ayrshire Council and the Energy Agency.
Funded by the Scottish Government, the insulation scheme offers local residents free home insulation and a range of energy efficiency advice, regardless of age, income or tenure.
The scheme has already been run successfully in Annbank, Coylton, Mossblown, Symington and Tarbolton and the best news of all, it is free of charge.
Councillor Peter Convery, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and Environment said: "I'm delighted the scheme is running again and thrilled South Ayrshire Council has secured £450,000 funding as part of the Scottish Government's commitment to home improvement and energy efficiency."
Households will be able to take advantage of free cavity wall insulation, loft insulation top-ups, or complete new loft insulation, as well as obtaining information and advice on how to reduce their energy use and minimise utility bills.
The scheme will be open until the end of March 2012, so householders are urged to act now before this offer runs out.
Councillor Convery continued: "Last year, the scheme was delivered to over 1,500 households and we anticipate that this work will help to save £90,635 a year for households and around 463 tonnes of CO2 a year.
That's a fantastic achievement and we're looking to achieve similar figures in Troon."
Liz Marquis, Director of the Energy Agency, said: "As much as half of the heat produced in a home can escape through walls and the roof if a home is un-insulated. I would urge everyone in Troon to get in touch as soon as possible to feel the benefits this winter."
Letters will be sent to every household in Troon over the next month and the scheme is now being promoted locally.
