The Proclaimers proved they were still the Kings of the Road when they performed to a packed Troon Concert Hall on Saturday (29 May) – marking the official opening of the newly-refurbished South Ayrshire Council facility.

Craig and Charlie Reid delighted the 1,000-strong crowd at the sell-out concert with songs from their latest album, Notes & Rhymes, as well as their best-known hits.

Marking the twins' first appearance in Troon, the concert was a welcome return to South Ayrshire for the band who appeared at Ayr Town Hall in the very early nineties and last performed in South Ayrshire as the headline act – with record attendance for a festival performance – during the 2006 burns an'a'that! Festival.

The concert also marked the official opening of the newly-refurbished Troon Concert Hall, which has recently undergone a major makeover as part of a £1.165 million project to rewire the hall, install new lighting and sound systems, improve the stage area and balconies and provide new seating throughout.

Councillor Hywel Davies, who met with the band before the show, said: "What a fantastic start to the new era at Troon Concert Hall – the audience loved every second of The Proclaimers concert and had a terrific night out.

"The Proclaimers weren't the only stars of the show as the new-look Concert Hall is very impressive and is sure to play host to more and more stars in the months and years to come.

"I hope Craig and Charlie had as much fun performing as we had watching the show and I look forward to seeing them back in South Ayrshire in the near future."

Craig and Charlie added: "We were absolutely delighted to play Troon in the newly reopened Concert Hall. Congratulations to all who facilitated the work. We had a great time!"
