Support Our Scottish Soldiers
Provost Winifred Sloan and members of The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion line up to run along the Lang Scots Mile in Ayr.
Members of The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion, known as the 2 SCOTS are soon to deploy to Afghanistan for a six month tour of duty. The soldiers may need welfare and benevolent support on their return, to finance this 2 SCOTS have started a charity wristband appeal known as www.whitehackle.com – a name chosen to reflect the White Hackle on their cap badge.
Fifteen members of the Battalion ran a relay marathon along the Lang Scots Mile in Ayr, they split into three teams of five and covered the Lang Scots Mile a total of 9 times, local people and visitors happy gave donations to them. All the funds raised will be used to support the families of bereaved Scottish soldiers.
South Ayrshire Provost Winifred who spent time with the soldiers at Ayr Beach said: "I was proud to meet with the soldiers who were determined to complete the run and raise funds for our brave servicemen and women. The people of South Ayrshire have strong military connections. As South Ayrshire Council's Veterans Champion I am always pleased to support service personnel in any way I can."
Lieutenant Johnathan Phillips said: "We were in Ayr to raise awareness of www.whitehackle.com and to raise money for injured soldiers and their families."
