South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan hosted a Civic Reception to honour the achievements of Jai McDowall, a Tarbolton man who won Britain's Got Talent.

Thousands of people gathered in Ayr High Street to watch Provost Sloan and Jai turn on the festive lights and listen to Jai fill the air with his outstanding singing.

Jai was then whisked away to the County Hall of the Council's headquarters for a Civic Reception to acknowledge his outstanding achievements this year.

Provost Sloan said: "Jai is truly a South Ayrshire man, he was born here, educated here and, until his recent meteoric rise to fame, worked as a community support worker, looking after local young people with disabilities.

"Determined to pursue a career as a professional musician Jai entered and won Britain's Got Talent and will later this year perform in front of her Majesty the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.

"Jai is an inspiration, he kept working hard, constantly improving, building on his singing experience. Having heard him sing live to thousands of local people in Ayr High Street I can vouch for his outstanding voice.

"I know that Jai will be a great ambassador for South Ayrshire and for Scotland."
