Recycling In The Community
Stratton Macdonald, Waste Strategy Group Leader, Cllrs Hunter, Moonie, Toner, Marc Watson, Store Manager and Cllr Convery
South Ayrshire Council is committed to recycling and people will now have an even greater opportunity to recycle thanks to the new set of Node banks located in bays at Sainsbury's in Prestwick. These are part of the Council's drive to further improve our recycling rate.
The Node banks have separate sections all clearly marked to show which type of waste should go where to prevent contamination. They can be used to recycle glass, newspaper, magazines and paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and food and drink cans.
Councillor Peter Convery, Sustainability and the Environment Portfolio Holder said: "The Node banks are quick and convenient to use and provide additional recycling facilities for our residents.
"Our Council is committed to reducing, reusing and recycling waste. We have an excellent recycling record and will continue to do everything we can to maximise opportunities improve this record.
"We work across South Ayrshire with many retailers to provide additional recycling facilities at their premises, the newly opened Sainsbury's is the latest store to work in partnership with us. Waste materials collected from here will help to boost the Council's recycling rate."
Speaking about the Node banks Marc Watson, Manager of the Sainsbury's store said: "We are delighted the Council agreed to provide recycling facilities at our premises. Colleagues at our store will keep the recycling area tidy and remove any spillages or litter. As well as the Node banks there is a litterbin for non-recyclable materials, so hopefully we are providing for all."
