South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie welcomed President General Lynn Forney Young of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and her members to South Ayrshire when they visited the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway

The aim of the groups visit was to celebrate and honour the influence the Scots had in securing American Independence and also in shaping the foundations of their nation in terms of politics, religion, science, philosophy and the arts. During their visit David Hopes, Director of the Robert Burns Museum in Alloway gave a presentation on Robert Burns.

Provost Moonie said: "I was delighted to welcome members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to South Ayrshire. Robert Burns is a big element in our history and the group really enjoyed learning more about his life and connections with America."
