Provost Officially Opens Sainsbury's
South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan cutting a ceremonial ribbon to officially open the new Sainsbury’s store in Prestwick.
The opening of Sainsbury's new store in Prestwick saw South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan cutting a ceremonial ribbon and declaring the store officially open.
Provost Sloan said: "Sainsbury's has created many new jobs which will help our local economy to thrive and provide people with valuable experience of working in the retail trade.
"Even before the new store opened Sainsbury's has been working with local schools and charities and putting something back into the community. A contribution from the company was used to improve play areas in Prestwick for young people enabling them to get out in the fresh air with their friends and enjoy a range of games on all-weather pitches. They were also one of the main sponsors of The Ayrshire Hospice Midnight Walk which is now one of the biggest fundraising events in the Hospice calendar.
"I enjoyed opening the new store and I am sure that it will go from strength to strength in the future and am personally delighted the store has at long last come to South Ayrshire – we have waited a long while for Sainsbury's."
Staff gathered to watch Provost Sloan officially open the store and afterwards welcomed the Provost and customers inside.
Marc Watson, Store Manager said: "It's amazing to finally be here at opening day. We have recruited an amazing group of colleagues that I'm certain will deliver the service our customers will expect. I'm proud to be part of such a great project within the community."
