The relationships between staff and children, children's enthusiasm for learning and the high levels of attainment at Coylton Primary have all been praised by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education in an official report published this week.
The school – which has almost 300 pupils in the primary school and nursery class – was inspected in June, just before the summer holidays.
The inspector's report recognises the many strengths within the school including improvements within the school achieved in partnership with parents, children and staff; the use of ICT; high levels of attainment in listening, talking, reading and mathematics; children's behaviour; and the children's welfare.
It also identified some areas of improvement, including continuing to raise children's achievements in writing, building upon good practice to ensure the children are consistently challenged, and improving opportunities for young children to develop early literacy and numeracy through play.
Councillor Hywel Davies, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning, said: "This is a positive endorsement of the work underway in Coylton Primary and Nursery Class and highlights the impact on the children and pupils themselves, which is very encouraging.
"The work of the nursery sets the groundwork – described by inspectors as a "strong culture of achievement" – for the learning the children take forward in primary school and establishes a culture of learning that remains with the pupils throughout their primary education.
"I am particularly pleased the work to implement the Curriculum for Excellence has been recognised by inspectors and the caring and supportive environment that has been created by staff is benefitting children, parents and visitors.
"The management team within the school has worked tremendously hard and this report shows their approach is paying dividends."
Head Teacher, Sandra Hewitson, said; "We are very pleased to receive such a positive report which reflects the efforts of every part of the school community – children, pupils, parents/carers and staff.
"As identified in the areas for improvement, we will continue to build on this success to ensure we make a difference for every child who passes through our doors and help them achieve their full potential."
