Everyone joined in the celebrations at the new all-weather pitches at Marr College in Troon

Two fantastic all-weather sports pitches have been unveiled at Marr College in Troon, giving locals access to much needed facilities. The £1.3 million project was funded by South Ayrshire Council and included a grant award of £300,000 from sportscotland.

The Council worked closely with Marr College and Troon Community Sports Hub to ensure the new pitches were designed to meet their needs and the needs of the wider community.

The result of this partnership working is a 3G surface for rugby and football and one short pile carpet for hockey. The pitches come complete with floodlighting, safety fencing, goal posts and team dugouts.

The pitches were officially handed over to the Council, by Hub South West who delivered the project and representatives of Kier Construction and Malcolm's who built the pitches.

Councillor Margaret Toner, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning said: "The new pitches look amazing and although they are all weather I am hoping we get a bit more summer sun to enjoy them. This project would not have been possible without strong partnership working and I would like to thank the school and Troon Community Sports Hub for all their hard work. The pitches are very welcome but they are only part of the overall investment of £40 million in Marr College. This investment will transform the facilities we can offer pupils, staff and the community."

S6 pupil, Stella Martin commented: "The new pitch is absolutely awesome! We are very motivated to get fit and are looking forward to a successful hockey season.

Michael McBrearty, Chief Executive of Hub South West said: "The Marr playing fields project is the tenth facility we have delivered to clients on time and on budget in the past 20 months.

"We are delighted to have been involved in this exciting new facility which involved the significant use of local tradesmen and will no doubt provide the pupils of Marr College and people in the Troon area with an improved sports experience.

"It is testament to the partnership working of all stakeholders that the project was handed over on schedule. Particular thanks are extended to our multiple stakeholders including South Ayrshire Council and our main contractor Kier Construction, whose co-operation has been vital in the successful completion of the project."
