A bright, welcoming and stimulating early learning and childcare environment, that can be enjoyed by up to 52 children, was officially opened at South Ayrshire Council's newly opened Space Place Early Years Centre in Prestwick.

The Space Place was initially opened as a youth centre and has been used by various organisations over a number of years.

In 2014, after a public consultation, the building was adapted and upgraded with a £170,000 refurbishment to transform it into a modern nursery to serve the local community.

Joining with children, parents, carers and staff at the official opening, Councillor Margaret Toner, Lifelong Learning Portfolio Holder for the Council said: "I welcome the opening of the Space Place Early Years Centre in Prestwick, the first new nursery in South Ayrshire for many years.

"It makes excellent use of an existing building and highlights the Council's commitment to provide high quality services for children and families in local areas. The staff team, led by manager Caroline Fyfe have created a welcoming and attractive environment where they can work in partnership with the local community."

The nursery provides children with rich sensory experiences so they can explore and learn in an enriching environment. The children can have lots of fun and can get the best possible start to their education while being looked after by the caring team of staff.

Working in partnership with parents and carers is a key element of the Space Place and their involvement in shaping the future of the centre will help to make it a successful nursery.

Councillor Toner concluded: "The investment in this early years centre demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that children, parents and families are inspired by their surroundings and that it is a fun, exciting and happy place for all children to learn and grow. It really does give these children the best possible start in life."
