Next Stage In Marr College Consultation
Marr College and Prestwick Academy will open to the public for two days next week as part of the consultation regarding the future of Marr College.
South Ayrshire Council has assessed the current accommodation within Marr College as unsuitable to deliver the education our young people deserve and is now considering options regarding how best to address this.
Refurbishing the current Marr College building or constructing a brand-new school, like Prestwick Academy, are two of these options. The open days – which were organised in response to requests made at the recent public meetings – will give people an opportunity to consider the potential outcomes the different options offer.
Councillor Hywel Davies, Portfolio Holder with responsibility for education, said:
"Marr College is a terrific school that delivers a quality education to thousands of pupils; however, the school building is not fit for purpose and does not reflect the standard of learning and teaching within and our young people deserve better.
"We know the difference quality accommodation can make and the open days will help identify how this can best be achieved for pupils, staff and local communities in Troon and the surrounding areas.
"I would encourage everyone with an interest in the future of Marr College to take the opportunity to visit both schools."
Marr College and Prestwick Academy will open between 11am and 3pm on both Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 August 2010, with tours available every hour, on the hour.
The informal consultation period ends on Thursday 30 September 2010 and individuals can submit their views regarding the future of Marr College online at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/marrconsultation or call 01292 612262 to request a pro-forma.
