It's back to the future for Ayr's High Street

Archive footage of Ayr and Ayrshire came to Ayr High Street last weekend when it was projected on to some shop windows in the town.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings the Ayr Town Heritage Initiative (THI) converted some town centre windows into screens, and showed film supplied by the Scottish Screen Archive.

This project is part of the ongoing work to transform Ayr town centre by Ayr Renaissance – the regeneration company established by South Ayrshire Council to bring the town centre back to life – and this is already paying dividends.

Councillor Bill McIntosh, the Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Ayr Renaissance Board Member said:  "This was an innovative project which let people see what Ayr town centre used to look like.  It was a great talking point as it took residents, visitors and shoppers on a journey into the past.

"Ayr is a fabulous town that offers something different for everyone, it is a great place to visit any time of the year and a great place to do some Christmas shopping or socialise with friends."

A brass band and a face painter were also present and joined in the fun.
