Improving our sheltered housing in Prestwick and Troon
Residents in South Ayrshire Council's sheltered housing unit at Lichtenfels Gardens in Prestwick will have some great new facilities to use by the end of 2010.
Members of the Council's Regulatory Panel approved development works at Lichtenfel Gardens that will transform the social space used by the residents.
Councillor Douglas Campbell, Housing and Customer First Portfolio Holder for the Council said: "The residents currently use a mid terraced bungalow to meet and socialise, but it is small and not easy to access for those with mobility problems.
"A new extension is going to be built, creating 93 square metres of additional space. As well as a residents' lounge there will be a kitchen/server area, a wardens office along with a general purpose room
"Once the new extension is complete the mid terraced bungalow previously used by the residents to meet will revert to a home for an additional resident."
Changes will also be taking place in Braden Drive later this year when the sheltered housing unit there will be reconfigured. This will mean that the residents can make better use of the space to socialise and enjoy activities together.
Councillor Nan McFarlane, Social Services Portfolio Holder said: "Sheltered housing provides support for people who require some assistance to live an independent life and maintain their physical and mental health. It is important for everyone to be able to socialise easily and the changes at the sheltered housing units will make a big difference to the lives of residents."
