Improving Facilities At The Citadel

Some exciting improvements are being made to South Ayrshire Council's Citadel Leisure Centre – new flooring and new lights.

Councillor Robin Reid, Resource and Performance Portfolio Holder said: "We are investing in the future of the Citadel as we want to make sure that as many people as possible, both residents and visitors to the area, continue to make good use of the facilities.

"The main hall at the Citadel gets a lot of use and it is starting to show signs of wear, so it is being completely stripped, sanded, relined and sealed. This will result in a much improved playing surface for people taking part in the wide range of activities available there.

"The current lighting system will be replaced with a more modern one that will provide much better control of lighting levels, making it possible to vary the amount of light depending on the activity taking place within the hall. The new lights will be ready for use almost as soon as they are switched on, which will mean that they are on for shorter periods of time and this will reduce the amount of power used."

So that these improvements can be made the main hall at the Citadel will be closed as follows:

Floor refurbishment       Wednesday 14 July to Friday 30 July inclusive.

Lighting replacement     Monday 9 August to Wednesday 25 August inclusive.

All current customers are being contacted to advise them of the requirement to close the Citadel Main Hall and to discuss opportunities to relocate existing bookings to other venues.
