More than six hundred competitors are preparing to battle it out to be crowned champion of this year's Ayr Golf Week. Now in its 65th year, South Ayrshire Council's popular event will draw to a close with the showcase Tam o' Shanter and Handyside Tournament.

As part of the week-long event golfers are given the opportunity to play on both links and parkland courses while competing for a number of historic trophies and generous prize funds.

Ayr Golf Week is played between Belleisle, Seafield and Dalmilling Golf Courses from Sunday 5th until Saturday 11th June. There are nine different competitions across the seven days with the main event being the Tam o' Shanter and Handyside Tournament on Sat 11th June, which this year has attracted more than 150 entrants.

Jill Cronin, South Ayrshire Council's Head of Enterprise, Development and Leisure said she was confident the event would be well attended, "This well established event has become a firm favourite with players and this year promises to be one of the best on record.

"In the year The Open takes place in South Ayrshire there is already a huge appetite for all things golf and we're hoping to see a number of new faces shine on the fairways this year.

"We're committed to supporting golf locally and I'm sure all those attending the new Belleisle clubhouse will be impressed by this new showcase facility."
