South Ayrshire Council will be extending the hours that household waste is collected while keeping collection days the same from October this year. This will cause minimal disruption to householders and enable a financial saving.
As part of the Council's three year budgetary plan for 2014−2017 a £300,000 efficiency had to be made by the waste management operations section.
Councillor John McDowall, Sustainability and Environment Portfolio Holder for the Council said: "Officers carried out an options appraisal, looking at different ways in which the necessary financial saving could be made.
"When considering the different options it was vital that we made savings without compromising the quality of the household waste collection service we provide.
"Householders will still get their waste collected on the same day but their waste may be collected earlier in the morning or later in the evening."
The changes, which will be implemented in October 2015, will ensure financial savings are made as the number of vehicles used to collect the waste will be reduced.
There will be no reduction in the number of employees and they will receive a 5% allowance for working outside core hours.
