Elvis Presley heads a long list of golden, centenary and 150th anniversaries in South Ayrshire during 2010.
Fifty years ago, on 3 March 1960, a fresh faced 25 year old Elvis Presley touched down in the UK for his only visit to the UK.
This year, on the same date, South Ayrshire Council is co-sponsoring a host of Elvis activities at the airport, marking the Golden Anniversary.
The undisputed King of Rock and Roll is due to arrive at 9.45am on Ryanair flight FR 407 in period GI uniform, before putting on his Blue Suede Shoes and taking the stage in the main concourse.
A full programme of hits, covers and events will mark the occasion featuring Naomi Chapman, Craig Jeffrey, the Elvis Cleaning Company, The Tracks, the Strathclyde University Band and the home grown talent of the MacDonald Brothers.
A commemorative plaque will be unveiled at 3.10pm and the day of entertainment comes to a close 10pm. Parking is available in the main car park and costs £1 for the day.
Elvis is not the only one celebrating an anniversary in South Ayrshire this year and if he was still wearing his Blue Suede Shoes there's little doubt he might have fancied a stroll along Prestwick Promenade, just a short distance from the airport.
South Ayrshire Council will help Prestwick Promenade celebrate its centenary in style this year with a series of events and activities marking the landmark birthday on Saturday, June 26, including a carnival by the seafront and other activities across the town.
The ever popular Ayr Flower Show marks its Golden Anniversary on Sunday 8th August, attracting visitors from around the world.
Troon Golf Week is also celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its ever popular programme between 16 and 20 August.
Staying with the golfing theme, the Open Golf Championship's 150th anniversary is being celebrated in style in September at Prestwick Golf Club, where the Open Championship began.
Other celebrations include the 150th anniversary of steam rail travel coming to Girvan, the 50th anniversary of Troon Sailing Club and the first time the British Kite Surfing Championships will be held in Scotland on Ayr's seafront, attracting the world's best sportsmen in this exciting sport from 17 to 19 September 2010.
Councillor Bill McIntosh, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: "Over and above the many anniversaries and celebrations, South Ayrshire can boast a wide range of activities, ranging from Burns to Blue Suede Shoes, golf to gastronomy, kite-surfing to crafts - plus a series of cultural and historical events in every month of the year, catering for all tastes and truly offering something for everyone throughout 2010 and beyond".
