All South Ayrshire school pupils in primaries 1, 2 and 3 will be entitled to receive free school meals from January 2015 – and South Ayrshire Council wants to know if your child will be taking up this offer.
Funded by the Scottish Government, the new initiative makes a school meal available to pupils in P1-P3, on a daily basis, and at no cost to parents or carers.
It's expected to save those who currently pay for school meals around £380 per child, per year.
To help determine levels of uptake, South Ayrshire Council has written out to parents and carers of all eligible children to find out how many pupils are likely to take up the offer.
As well as advising whether their child or children will be taking up a free school meal, parents/carers are also asked about any dietary requirements. This will help ensure suitable meals are available for all children who request them.
Anyone who has a child in P1-P3 in a South Ayrshire Council primary and has not received a letter about the free school meals should contact the school office in the first instance.
Those who have received the letter, but did not complete the form, should do so immediately and return it to the school.
