South Ayrshire Council employees showed their support for Fairtrade Fortnight when Ayr Fairtrade Partnership set up a stall in the reception area of the County Buildings in Ayr with a range of Fairtrade products.

After visiting the stall South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie said: "We are delighted to be working closely with Ayr Fairtrade Partnership to promote Fairtrade and celebrate the difference everyday choices can make to the lives of others. I am proud that by making a decision to buy Fairtrade rice, sold by the Ayr Fairtrade Partnership, people in South Ayrshire have already this year alone bought enough rice for two Malawian farmers to be able to pay for a year's basic secondary education for a child. I want to commend the hardworking volunteers at the partnership for their drive and determination to make this happen and would encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way they can."
