On the ball! Talented footballer and Marr College pupil Tom Walsh will fly to Russia to play for Scotland in the Besov Cup this month.
Marr College pupil Tom Walsh (16) will be putting his best foot forward next week, literally, as he flies to Russia as a key member of the Scottish Youth Football team in an international youth football tournament – with the winners lifting the prestigious Besov Cup.
Talented Tom is a rising football star and already plays for Rangers' under 17 squad, enjoying starring performances in recent youth team victories against Queen's Park and Caledonian Thistle.
He's now jetting off with the rest of the Scottish youth team to play in the Besov Cup which kicks off with Scotland v FC Lokomotiv on Wednesday 6 June at the Zenit Football Academy in St Petersburg.
Just a day later, Tom and the team will face FC Krasnodar, with a final match against FC Zenit on Saturday 9 June.
Tom said: "Playing for Scotland is a dream come true for me and I'm really looking forward to going to Russia to play in the Besov Cup.
"All the staff at Marr College have been fantastic in supporting my football, right from an early age and I'm sure this played a significant role in helping me get selected for the Rangers youth team. To then go on and be selected to play for my country is just amazing".
Marr College Head teacher Elaine McGregor-Sloman commented: "We're really thrilled Tom is representing the school, South Ayrshire and Scotland in the Besov Cup and we've no doubt his football skills will help the team succeed.
"Our aim was always to work with Tom to make sure he stayed on target with his football, as well as hitting his academic goals and he's managed that admirably. He is a mature and ambitious young man with a huge talent for the game and I'm confident he will go on to have a full and successful career as a top professional in the sport.
"He's a real credit to Marr College and we will all be eagerly awaiting news of his eastern adventure, hoping he scores lots of goals!"
