South Ayrshire Council's Leadership Panel has approved the creation of four new social work posts – offering more resources for children and families in the area.
Three posts will provide an immediate response and assessment service for all children referred to social work who are believed to be at risk and the other to enhance existing cover in the Girvan and Maybole area.
Welcoming the development, Councillor Rita Miller, Portfolio Holder for Social Services, explained: "We're fully committed to a positive future for all children and young people that maximises the opportunities available to them in school, work and in life, whether looked after or referred to us as a precaution.
"A key part of this is getting involved with families and young people at the earliest opportunity when a child might be seen as at risk, or may need further support or encouragement to develop or succeed, while minimising risk.
"These new posts will help us do just that."
The Council is committed to the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) model which is the national approach governing the provision of services for children and young people.
Councillor Miller continued: "The preventative nature of the model has seen a rise in the number of young people referred to children and family services and we need to ensure we're geared up to manage that.
"The new posts will allow us to respond quickly to new referrals and cases, offering a faster, more efficient service that focuses on the best outcomes for our children and young people – and that's the best news of all."
