Drawing On Energy, One Month At A Time
Twenty five talented young artists have won awards in this year's Energy Agency Calendar Competition for 2011, presented during a special ceremony at County Hall, Ayr.
Run by the Energy Agency in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council primary schools, the annual competition has become a firm favourite with pupils.
Each year the theme is "Save Energy in the Home" and pupils are invited to produce a piece of artwork to reflect this message.
As in previous years the entry standard was extremely high, giving judges the difficult task of choosing thirteen winners - one for each month of the year and one for the front cover of the calendar. There are also twelve runners up prizes.
Winners get to swim free at one of the Council's pools up to and including the month of September and also received a certificate, Energy Agency mug and a goodie bag.
The twelve runners up each receive a certificate and an Energy Agency mug filled with goodies.
Hosting the ceremony, Provost Winifred Sloan said: "I've said it before, but it amazes me how each year the quality of entries gets better and better.
"Young people in South Ayrshire have a clear understanding on the importance of saving energy in their homes and they are also excellent artists!
"Every pupil has put a lot of thought and hard work into their entry and I would like to congratulate each and every one of them.
In keeping with a well established tradition, local councillors representing each school area were invited to the ceremony and each was presented with an advance copy of the 2011 calendar.
Later this year, the calendars will be available to the public free of charge, in public buildings and from Council offices
