Countdown is on to the Sport Relief Mile!
South Ayrshire Council's Active School volunteers are calling on local residents to support this year's Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile from 11am, on Saturday 25 March 2012 at Rozelle Park in Ayr.
'Active Schools' is a term given to all schools in Scotland which provide pupils with the opportunities to get active and adopt healthier lifestyles.
In South Ayrshire, a well developed and dynamic Active Schools network helps pupils to take part in school and community sports, as well as recruiting and developing a team of volunteers to deliver sports initiatives in local schools and the wider community.
The volunteers have helped organise this year's Sport Relief Mile and, with the support of South Ayrshire Council, are calling for a big turnout to support the event – so come along to Rozelle with your family and friends to hop, skip, jog or even run your way round the route!
All the money raised on the day will help to change the lives of people living tough lives in the local community, across the rest of the UK and in some the world's poorest countries.
The six mile event gets under way at 11am, the three mile event starts at 11.30am and the one mile run gets under starter's orders from Noon and, once you've finished, you can kick back and enjoy all the entertainment on offer.
So, with the countdown well under way, get ready, be steady and go to the internet to sign up at: www.sportrelief.com.
It's a fun day out in aid of an excellent cause, so dust off your trainers and come along to Rozelle to take part – it's a day you'll look back on with fond memories and a sense of pride, for many years to come!"
