Staff and Councillors at South Ayrshire Council have responded to an appeal for donated items to help refugees stranded at Calais.

Lots of items including sleeping bags, pots and pans and warm clothing have now been handed over to Calaid, the charitable organisation responsible for arranging the aid shipment.

South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie said: "Thank you to everyone that responded to this appeal. The plight of the refugees is very moving and I am glad that people have decided to donate these much needed items."
