Council disciplinary process concludes

Following the dismissal in June of five waste management employees for breaches of policies and procedures, South Ayrshire Council's internal disciplinary process concluded today (Tuesday) with allegations of malpractice upheld in all five cases.

The employees' appeals were heard by the Council's Appeals Panel – a decision-making panel of Councillors who are required to consider any appeals against dismissal.

As a result of the Panel's considerations, three employees remain dismissed from their employment with the Council, with the employment of the remaining two reinstated under condition of receiving a final written warning, together with a period of suspension without pay.

David Anderson, Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council, said: "We will not tolerate any malpractice that impacts on our ability to deliver the best possible service to the people of South Ayrshire and today's decisions confirm that commitment.

"We have robust disciplinary procedures which include the right of appeal for all employees and it's important to have such processes in place.

"We will now work with the two employees concerned to manage their transition back to work in line with the Panel's decision.

"Our priority throughout this process has always been to maintain an efficient, quality waste management service for our communities and that will continue to be our focus now this disciplinary and appeals process has ended."
