Changes have been made to South Ayrshire Council's Kerbside Recycling Service to reflect comments received from residents across South Ayrshire.
From 1 December 2011 blue bins will be emptied every two weeks instead of every four weeks. This means that from 1 December residents should place their blue bin out for collection on each alternate week following your green bin collection week.
Please continue to place out your black box for glass recycling until further notice and we would remind you that glass items should not be placed in your blue bin.
As a result of these changes the routine brown bin collection service is being suspended during the months of December, January and February. However, if you would like to have your brown bin emptied during these three months please call 0300 123 0900 or e-mail cst@south-ayrshire.gov.uk. Residents will only be entitled to receive one brown bin collection per month from the call-out service.
New recycling calendars, which take into account the changes can be downloaded or if you would like to have a copy posted out to you please telephone 0300 123 0900 and this will be arranged.
Councillor Peter Convery, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and the Environment said: "We have listened to members of the public and the changes reflect the information we received.
"We are committed to recycling kerbside waste and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill sites and we believe that these changes during the winter months will assist us to do this.
"Reducing, reusing and recycling household waste is important and we appreciate the co-operation of householders who are helping us to achieve this."
Leaflets and posters explaining the changes in the Kerbside Recycling Service have been distributed across South Ayrshire. In addition, members of the public will be able to speak to employees about the changes at the following locations:
- Thursday 17 November at Morrison's in Troon From 1.30 pm
- Monday 21 November at the Co-op, Maybole - All day
- Wednesday 23 November at Sainsbury's, Prestwick - All day
- Thursday 24 November at Morrison's, Ayr - All day
- Monday 28 November at Asda, Ayr - All day
- Tuesday 29 November at Asda, Girvan - All day
- Thursday 1 December at the Co-op, Prestwick - All day
