A new voter registration app is now available in Ayrshire which aims to encourage young and first-time voters to register to vote in upcoming elections.
September marked the end of the household registration system, and now Individual Electoral Registration allows young people to take control of their own registration.
The app, which is available for all Android phones, will provide ongoing news updates relating to electoral events as well as a direct link to the government online registration portal.
Senior school pupils, third-level students and young people in general are the target audiences for the app, and more information will be disseminated through schools, colleges, youth groups and university campuses throughout Ayrshire.
Ayrshire's electoral registration officer, Helen McPhee, said: "Based on the registration and voting levels in the recent referendum, it is vital to keep this age group engaged. Making registration simpler and using a modern method to raise political awareness through this app keeps democratic engagement at the forefront of the minds of under-represented groups."
