Young people at a South Ayrshire school are being given practical work experience after securing two grants to open two new micro-businesses. A bike maintenance centre and a nail bar are opening at Prestwick Academy to provide young people with practical workplace experience.

21 community groups are celebrating after landing fresh funding to help support their work. More than 110 voters turned out to take part in the 'South Carrick Decides' event, which is part of a new way of encouraging people to get actively involved in local decision making known as 'Participatory Budgeting'.
There will be something for everyone at the Community Fun Day on Saturday 10 September at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr.
The drive to bring fresh investment and new jobs to South Ayrshire has been taken to an international audience from China. The Council has hosted a delegation from Shanghai, in a visit which marks growing links between Scottish and Chinese cultures.
St Patrick's Primary school in Troon, has just received £1,000 worth of golfing equipment. Police Scotland wanted to do something to thank the school and South Ayrshire Council for letting them use it as a base during the 145th Open Championship which was held at Royal Troon between the 10 and 17 July.

A new national service that simplifies the submission of Building Warrant applications has now gone live in South Ayrshire. The new portal will allow businesses and individuals to make online Building Standards applications for the first time.
Three Paralympians with local roots are preparing to pit themselves against top performing athletes from around the world. South Ayrshire Council's wishing the athletes the very best of luck as they begin their quest to land Gold medals in Rio.

An overgrown and underused piece of land in Girvan has been transformed into a thriving public space, after dozens of people were put to work through Community Payback Orders. South Ayrshire Council oversaw the work at Girvan's Golf Course Road over a 15 month period.
Alloway Primary is the latest school in South Ayrshire, to get a coveted Eat Safe Award. Alloway joins 14 other schools who have already secured this important quality standard.

Three of Scotland's most promising young politicians have pledged to make South Ayrshire proud after being selected for new high profile positions at the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP). Among the promotions, one of the teenagers has also been selected to represent the views of young people at the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP).
Staff at a South Ayrshire Council leisure centre acted quickly to save a life recently. The workers at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr jumped into action when James Hamilton (65) suffered a cardiac arrest while using the gym.

The remaining section of Prestwick Beach, which was closed due to the discovery of asbestos cement, has reopened to the public.
Construction work on the new Tarbolton Community Campus has reached its first major milestone. The steel frame for the new South Ayrshire Council project is now complete, with the project on course to be completed on time and on budget.
As the Olympics continue it's hoped that some of the stars of the future could come from South Ayrshire, as the Council prepares to roll out a year-long series of events. The Learn 2 Gymnastics programme gets underway on August 22 at activity centres across the area.

Young people across South Ayrshire have received their SQA exam results today (Tuesday 9 August) with high standards on display across the area. Schools have returned some of the best results on record following months of preparation and revision.

The main northern stretch of Prestwick Beach is reopening to the public today (5 August 2016) following the completion of on-site asbestos removal works and confirmation that the risk to public health is negligible.
Education for children at Troon Primary School will be transformed after work is completed on a significant new extension. The South Ayrshire Council project to replace the old dining hall with a new multi-use wing will dramatically improve facilities for the local community.
Ayr Town Centre has been declared 'ground zero' in the fight against persistent litter droppers blighting the streets. South Ayrshire Council and Ayr Renaissance have teamed up to launch a new gumbuster service to remove chewing gum scarring streets and pavements.

South Ayrshire Council is set to open an adult learning hub at the John Pollock Centre in Ayr. The hub will help adults with literacy, numeracy, basic IT and language skills and replaces the Learning Shop on New Bridge Street in the town which shut its doors at the end of July.
