Pupils from six primary schools in South Ayrshire are one step closer to movie stardom thanks to an innovative animation project.
The Tate Movie Project is an exciting film initiative led by the Tate Gallery in London, supported by Aardma, the company behind Creature Comforts and Wallace and Gromit.
It is running hundreds of production workshops across the UK from the Tate Movie Truck, a state of the art mobile learning space where children can explore art and animation, as well as generate ideas and drawings for the film
It is the first project of its kind and will see thousands of children, aged 5 to 13, contributing to the film, to be released in the summer of 2011.
As part of the UK tour, the Movie Truck recently visited Rozelle House, where almost 160 South Ayrshire pupils took part, creating and filming segments for the new movie.
Ten year old Daisy Bradshaw from Girvan Primary School said: "I loved Creature Comforts and Wallace and Gromit are among my all time favourite animations. I couldn't believe it when my class was invited to take part in the Tate Movie and I really hope our ideas make it into the cinema."
Councillor Margaret Toner, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said: "This is a really exciting project that opens our young people up to a whole range of new artistic experiences and creative possibilities.
"Once the ideas, drawings and movie sequences have been collected, a team will animate them at Aardman Animations in Bristol, leading to a feature length film that will be magical and truly unique.
"The pupils can keep up to date with how the whole project is progressing by logging onto a virtual film studio with characters representing each part of the movie production.
"Once online, they can visit the different areas of the studio to submit work, record sounds, write scripts or even just vote for what they would like to see in the film.
"It really is well thought out and brilliantly presented and I was delighted to meet some of the young stars of tomorrow who have all played their part in this fantastic concept.
"I really can't wait to see the final version on the big screen next year!"
