The Euroquiz, organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust, and sponsored by Standard Life, has attracted entrants from 26 local authorities in Scotland.

Teams of P6 pupils from Holmston, Symington, Pinwherry, Dundonald, Gardenrose and Kingcase Primary Schools took part in the South Ayrshire heat of the 2008 Euroquiz at the Horizon Hotel in Ayr. Each school was represented by four P6 pupils, who answered questions on a wide range of topics, that included history, geography, sport, culture, the European Union and general knowledge.

After a close competition the team from Gardenrose Primary School won the final round.

Dugald Craig from the Scottish European Educational trust presented the winning team with a trophy that was donated by Standard Life. Every pupil who took part in the competition was presented with a certificate and a European themed ‘goodie’ bag.

The knowledgeable winning team members from Gardenrose Primary School will take part in the final of the competition in May 2008, that will be held in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament.

The final of the competition in May will be broadcast by webcam from the Scottish Parliament so that teams that took part in the regional heats can watch it.
