Tackling Antisocial Behaviour At The Oval In Prestwick
BMX time trial
Five weeks of varied activities at the Oval in Prestwick, all designed to tackle antisocial behaviour in and around the area, were brought to a close with a 7-a-side football tournament.
The activities that have been taking place over the last few weeks were selected to appeal to as many people as possible, they included:
- An environmental project that included picking up litter and glass
- Planting shrubs that will enhance the area and act as a deterrent to people climbing over walls into back gardens.
- Sponsored band night
- A BMX time trial
- A 5k running event
Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Chair of the South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership said: “Every week over 30 people of various ageshave turned up to take part in the diverse activities that have been arranged.
“Over the last five weeks little or not antisocial behaviour has been reported in and around the Oval when the events have been taking place. I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this project a success, but particularly the young people who chose to use their leisure time constructively.”
The 7-a-side football tournament attracted teams from Prestwick and surrounding villages with teams displaying their football skills, having fun and getting healthy exercise. The tournament was organised by employees from the Partnership, youth workers and Strathclyde Police.
