South Ayrshire Swim Team Make National Waves
Swim Team
Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Portfolio Carrier for Community Services, paid a visit to the Citadel in Ayr to meet members of the South Ayrshire Swim Team who are setting the pace in the world of swimming.
A number of young members of the South Ayrshire Swim Team swimmers have secured places on National Squads. After meeting them Councillor Toner said: “It is very gratifying to see young people who are members of the South Ayrshire Swim Team being selected for such specialised training. These young people are an inspiration to other members of the team and to other young people who are thinking of taking up competitive swimming.
“I would like to wish these successful swimmers, and all the other members of the team good luck in their chosen sport. All the team swimmers train very hard and give up their precious leisure time to dedicate themselves to their sport.”
Craig Corson, from Ayr, has been selected for the Scottish National Youth Development Squad. The National Squad is made up from top swimmers from all over Scotland and training with them will help Craig to build on the work that he has done with South Ayrshire Swim Team and with Chris Marin, Scottish National Team Coach. Craig will attend a series of training weekends at the National Swimming Academy including one over Christmas and New Year.
Five other members of the South Ayrshire Swim Team have been selected for the Scottish National District Squads. These Squads are made up from the top swimmers in the West of Scotland area stretching from the Dumfries and Galloway south area, Stirling north area, Isla and Jura west area and Falkirk east area.
The talented South Ayrshire Swim Team swimmers that have been selected are:
Alix Picken, from Ayr.
Andrew Hunter, from Prestwick.
Amy Hall, from Prestwick.
Findlay Rae, from Doonfoot.
Scott Jackson, from Kilmarnock.
These swimmers will attend a series of 3 training days where they will receive expert coaching. The aim of the specialised coaching is to develop their skills and performance with a view to being able to progress into the National Squads like Craig Corson has.
