The South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership held a 'Samba Soccer Challenge' on Ayr beach and invited South Ayrshire Council school pupils between the ages of 8 and 16 years to take part.

The aim of the Challenge was to showcase the new Portable Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) equipment and let as many pupils as possible experience it.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Chair of the Partnership said: "MUGA is a portable games facility that can be used almost anywhere and on any surface.

"It can be quickly and easily assembled, at locations where there are not specific surfaces for sports, taking additional sports facilities to communities across South Ayrshire.

"It is important that young people get regular exercise in a way that they enjoy. I am sure that using this facility will encourage many of the youngsters to continue exercising and improve their fitness."

Using the MUGA the pupils took part in a series of 'one on one' football contests where participants had to score goals.

Local Councillor Bill Grant presented a trophy to Patrick O'Hara, (11) who won the contest and to Conner McInally (13) the runner up.
