Sailing Adventure Artwork Display At Mckechnie Institute
A very special exhibition of artwork by young students from Girvan, Maidens and Dailly will take place in the McKechnie Institute in Girvan throughout November and December.
The artwork in the exhibition was created by students who took part in a summer sailing adventure as part of their participation in the John Muir Award. During their adventure at sea the students painted, sketched and photographed the islands and remote west coast of Scotland landscape as a record of their journey. The art exhibition is a compilation of their sailing experiences while exploring and sailing the west coast including Mull, Jura, and the Argyle and Arran coast.
An exhibition of their work will be on display at the McKechnie Institute from Friday 7 November 2008 until the end of December 2008. Entry to the exhibition is FREE.
Later this year each of the students who took part in the John Muir Award will receive a certificate. To achieve the Award each student had to complete four challenges:
- Discovering a wild place.
- Exploring its wilderness.
- Helping to conserve it.
- Share their experience with others by organising the art expedition.
The four challenges are designed to promote a holistic approach, and reflect John Muir`s wilderness Experience, promoting to children the idea of conserving, areas of wilderness.
