The Waste Management Section of South Ayrshire Council has produced a FREE Recycling and Environmental guide and calendar that will be distributed across South Ayrshire.

Residents of South Ayrshire Council contributed to the Council’s success in achieving a recycling and composting rate of 42.7% for the first quarter of 2006/07, which was the second highest recycling rate for that period in Scotland.

Councillor Peter Convery, the Council’s Portfolio Carrier for Sustainability and Environmental issues said: “Recycling waste materials helps to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, resulting in less raw materials being used and benefits the environment. This informative and colourful recycling guide is intended to help increase those recycling rates, and provide the latest up to date information on what and where items can be recycled.”

The Recycling and Environmental guide and calendar contains information on a wide range of topics including:

• Why recycle?
• Recycling points
• Where to buy compost
• Community Recycling Centres
• Blue bins
• Home compost
• Kerbside glass recycling

All South Ayrshire Council residents should start to receive their copies early in November 2007, either through the mail or inside a free newspaper.

Any resident who does not receive a copy can obtain one from their local library or can view it on the Council’s website by logging on to www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/wastemanagement.
