Dancing is a very popular pastime with people of all ages and the thriving dance club in Queen Margaret Academy shows that many of their students are keen to learn how to dance, or to improve their existing skills.
Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of South Ayrshire Council and Portfolio Carrier for community Services, visited Queen Margaret Academy to see the club in action.
After watching a display of dancing and meeting the students Councillor Toner said: “Queen Margaret Academy has a thriving dance club that gives students an opportunity to try various forms of dancing so that they can find the style that they like best.
“It is important that students are given an opportunity to take part in a range of physical activities and find one that they enjoy. I think that this is the key to getting young people to exercise more, which will help them to maintain and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
”Dancing is a great way for people to express themselves, it is very social and an activity that people of all ages can enjoy.”
The Council has launched Phase 2 of the Active Schools Network in South Ayrshire. This follows the announcement by the Scottish Government that funding is available for the Active Schools Network in Scotland, through sportscotland for 2008 to 2011.
The Active Schools Network in South Ayrshire motivates children and young people to adopt active, healthy lifestyles now and into adulthood, and provides them with opportunities to take part in various sporting activities.
