Pupils Flag Up An Environmental Success Story
School pupils proudly display the national Eco flag in front of Councillors John Hampton and Tom Slider, parents, staff and other pupils.
Pupils from Whitletts Primary school have recently won a coveted national Eco Flag award for their knowledge on environmental issues.
The award of the Eco flag means the school becomes only the ninth to achieve this recognition in the local area and the pupils impressed the judges who were literally bowled over that pupils in every year had a good awareness of environment subjects such as recycling, reusing and reducing the amount of waste we produce.
Head Teacher Rona Lindsay said: "At Whitletts Primary, we actively promote environmental awareness and we make sure the messages are delivered to each and every class. All our pupils were a credit to the school and I am delighted that we have won this special national eco flag recognising our commitment to these issues."
The flag was unfurled to loud cheering and clapping, during a special ceremony, by school pupils in the School's Assembly Hall in front of Councillors John Hampton and Tom Slider.
Councillor Hampton said: "I am delighted the school's efforts in promoting environmental issues have been rewarded at a national level and it is evident from the pupils that they have a good grasp of such issues and are clearly practicing what they are learning."
