South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan has welcomed eight new apprentices to the Council. The new members of staff will receive appropriate training for their chosen trade that will transform them into qualified skilled trades people.
The Council has a highly successful apprenticeship programme and this year over 300 applicants applied for eight places.
Following a rigorous selection process the following people were offered and accepted an apprenticeship with the Council:
Georgina Faulds - Apprentice Plumber
Fraser Milne - Apprentice Plumber
Craig Langford - Apprentice Plumber
Nicholas Warren - Apprentice Slater
Stewart McKinstray - Apprentice Joiner
Josh Skilling - Apprentice Joiner
Michael Filson - Apprentice Bricklayer
Jareth Russell - Apprentice Electrician
After welcoming the new apprentices to the Council Provost Sloan said: “Every year the Council receives hundreds of applications from men and women who want to receive training in a particular trade. The standard of applications received for apprenticeships is very high, and I would like to congratulate all the new apprentices on being selected.
“Each of the apprentices has committed themselves to a long and intense training programme, but at the end of it they will have a recognised qualification. Increasingly there is a shortage of skilled trades people that I hope these people will help to reduce when they qualify.
“The Council has a reputation for the high quality of their apprentices and I am sure that the new apprentices will live up to the high standards set by others before them.
