Promoting Arts And Culture
South Ayrshire Council is applying to the Scottish Arts Council for funding to assist in the creation of a post of Senior Cultural Co-ordinator for an initial period of one year.
Councillor Hywel Davies, the Council’s Portfolio Carrier for Learning and Prosperity and a member of the Leadership Panel that approved the application, said: “This is a great opportunity for the Council and for the young people of South Ayrshire.
“The Scottish Arts Council is making funding available in financial year 2008/09 for the establishment of cultural co-ordination positions. The co-ordinators will develop opportunities for children and young people to learn about and increase their existing knowledge of the arts, media and heritage.”
If the application is successful, the Senior Cultural Co-ordinator would develop culture at a strategic level, as part of the Council’s emerging Arts and Cultural Strategy. This will integrate with key Council strategies including Community Planning, Integrated Children’s Services Plan and Youth Strategy. The post holder would mobilise and co-ordinate local artists and artist groups to best meet the needs of children and young people, schools and community groups.
The Scottish Arts Council has indicated that posts could commence in August 2008 continuing until July 2009, with applications being sought for a further year from August 2009 to July 2010.
