Everyone enjoyed sampling the Scottish food and drink at the open evening in Carnegie Library in Ayr

Members of the Polish Community in South Ayrshire attended an open evening in South Ayrshire Council’s Carnegie Library, to help forge new cultural links between the communities.

The evening was part of a larger campaign, funded by the Scottish Government, to enable libraries to establish closer links with Eastern European immigrants and their families. Everyone got a tour of the Carnegie Building, followed by an opportunity to sample Scottish and Polish food and drink.

Everyone who attended the event was asked to complete a questionnaire on the type of library services they would like to see available in South Ayrshire. The results will be used to develop the Council’s library service and will be passed to the Scottish Libraries and Information Council as part of a drive to co-ordinate public library services across Scotland.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Depute Leader of the Council and Portfolio Carrier for Community Services said: “The evening was a great success, the guests were all given a guided tour of the library and lots of information about the outstanding facilities that it has. There was an opportunity to sample some Scottish and Polish food and drink. I would like to thank everyone who attended and filled in the questionnaire, the information will be very useful to the Council.”
