New members of the South Ayrshire Children’s Panel have successfully completed their pre service training programme.

To mark the occasion South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan presented each of the new members with a certificate at a special meeting in the County Buildings in Ayr.

Panel Members make informed decisions in the best interests of children after discussing each individual case along with the child, parents/guardian and interested professionals. Working on behalf of the community they make decisions about children who need care and protection, or those who offend.

Drawn from all sections of the community Panel Members represent most age groups, and this ensures a balanced Panel. No special technical or professional skills are required as those who are selected undergo training that will allow them to take part in the Children’s Hearing System.

People who apply to become Panel Members must be willing to give time, and commitment, and have a sincere interest in the welfare of children.

Anyone who would like further information about the Children’s Hearing System should contact Alison Nelson on telephone number 01292 612462.
