At a meeting of South Ayrshire Council on 14 September 2007 it was decided that Tom Cairns, the Council’s current Chief Executive, should remain in post until August 2008 and then leave the Council.

By mutual agreement it has been agreed between Tom Cairns and the Council that he will leave earlier, he will now vacate the post of Chief Executive on 30 November 2007.

Councillor Hugh Hunter, the Leader of the Council said: “Tom has been instrumental in helping this Council develop and improve its services in the time he has served as Director of Financial Services and as our Chief Executive. We wish him well for the future.”

The recruitment process for a new Chief Executive will now be initiated and this will involve advertising the position in appropriate national press and professional publications. The recruitment process will be conducted through the Council’s Chief Officers Appointments Panel.
