Provost Sloan and the Environmental Health Officers from Malta.
South Ayrshire Council Provost Winifred Sloan welcomed members of the Malta Association of Environmental Health Officers to the County Buildings during their l visit to South Ayrshire.
The Malta Association of Environmental Health Officers chose South Ayrshire as their destination to look at the way in which Environmental Health Officers in this Council carry out their duties.
Malta recently joined the European Union, which has led to them dealing with new regulations and having greater contact with other countries.
After meeting the Maltese Officers Provost Winifred Sloan said: “I am aware that the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland already has very close ties with their colleagues in Malta, and I am sure that this visit will cement those relations further.
“Environmental Health Officers play a vital role in the advancement of public health, hygiene and health and safety. I appreciate the work carried out by them in South Ayrshire and other countries. They go about their duties with professionalism and diplomacy, often under very difficult circumstances. I am sure that the Environmental Health Officers from Malta face many of the same challenges that their counterparts in South Ayrshire do.”
The importance of the visit was marked by the fact that Vice President Antoinetta Vela and Honorary Secretary Hadrian Bonello were part of the Maltese delegation.
During their visit the Maltese Officers spent time with Council Environmental Health Officers and visited some business premises in South Ayrshire.
