Invergarven School in Girvan is one step closer to creating a sensory garden thanks to funds raised by two members of staff who did a sponsored skydive.

Jane Gordon, Acting Head Teacher at Invergarven and Kimberley Keenan, Teacher raised funds by skydiving from 10,000 feet and landing on the ground at Kingsmurie Airfield in St Andrews.

Creating a sensory garden at Invergaren will enable pupils to have a range of sensory experiences, that will be enjoyable and that will help their development. Pupils at the school will be involved in designing the garden so that it reflects their needs and they feel that it belongs to them. The garden will include plants, herbs, a water feature and a range of textured materials that can be seen and touched.

Councillor Hywel Davies, Portfolio Carrier for Learning and Prosperity said: "I understand that this was the first skydive that Jane and Kimberley had ever done and they did it to raise funds for a sensory garden for their pupils. I would like to congratulate them on raising funds and thank everyone who sponsored them. I am sure that the garden will be a great success and I look forward to seeing it once it is complete."

Jane and Kimberley were given a DVD of their sky high experience and they have been able to show it to their pupils and let them also enjoy the fun of the skydive.

Colleagues at the school sponsored Jane and Kimberley, along with parents, friends, family and local businesses. Once all the sponsorship money and donations have been collected the total will be just over £1,000.
